We Want: Two Preppy Classics

The thing about fashion is it’s often impractical. Beautiful, aspirational, fun — but not useful when weekends involve chores, carting children around, or other activities that call for function over form.
That’s why we’re excited by the renewed interest in two easy-wearing, versatile classics: the boat shoe, and the cotton button-down. Ivy style is back big time; call it the Saltburn effect. Expect a frenzy over the formerly fratty shoe, which Miu Miu recently showed styled with other preppy mainstays, like navy blazers. The footwear offers a similar vibe to loafers, but is more comfy and casual, and looks cute with little socks or bare ankles. Button-downs, meanwhile, have never left, but now they come in all sorts of silhouettes: fitted or loose, cropped or long. Below, our favorites in both categories.
Boat Shoes:
